FROM PLAYROOM TO FAMILY ROOM

February 20, 2019
Decorating this family room was such a work of love between my husband and I. Even though the room is on the smaller side, we created the perfect cozy family room in a small space. It is homey, efficient and we truly L O V E it. Here's a little story about why we changed it up.

When we moved into this house three and a half years ago, it was my dream to create a playroom for the kids... and we did. We turned what was the formal dining room (adjacent to the living room) into a playroom. And in a short 3 1/2 years the kids grew and outgrew their "big toys". That's when Dave and I decided to turn the playroom into a family room, since the rooms in our house are small and we could use the additional sitting and living space. It was absolutely bitter sweet but to be honest, the toys that the kids play with are much smaller now and there was no need for an entire room just for their toys anymore. So we moved things around and got to decorating with the help of The Home Depot.

Yes, you read that right, The Home Depot sells more than just paint and tools. I was happily surprised to see all the variety of furniture they sell while attending a Home Depot x Pinterest event last year. They sell everything you can imagine for the home. Most of the furniture items are sold online, this is why many of us don't realize they also sell furniture. In a nutshell you can literally build and furnish your entire home by shopping in one store! Thank you baby Jesus!

Oh and the best part, they have partnered with Pinterest to even help you decorate your home. They really thought of everything. You can shop straight from the Pinterest app, no hassle. So when we decided to collaborate with The Home Depot I was ecstatic to get the entire process started.

I wanted our actual living room and the new "family room" to be cohesive but still feel like different spaces. I wanted the new family room to be cozy and be all about FAMILY; that was my goal. I knew I wanted the colors to be gray, white, black and brown wood and we love the outcome. I'll be honest it took us a few months to get everything together because the room is small and I needed pieces that would be perfect for a small space but at the same time have enough storage for the kids' toys and books. So without further ado, here is our new family room... Scroll to the very bottom for  before and after photos as well as links to every piece we got from The Home Depot.

It was so important for us to make the sure the room felt cozy but also that it was useful and had lots of storage space. We purchased baskets to store toys and picked the coffee table because it's perfect for books, board games and you can even fit smaller basket for small toys.

One of my favorite features of the room is the "Mi Casa, Su Casa" prints. As a bilingual family, our culture and language plays a huge role in our day to day life, so this piece was a must have for me. I purchased that print on Etsy, got it printed and the frames are from Michael's.

I really enjoyed putting this room together. It was definitely a bit challenging because of its size but I am so happy with the outcome and we are enjoying this room so much. Remember, to always think of your style but mostly comfort when decorating a family room and make sure it's versatile and efficient. Here are all the links to all the furniture pieces from The Home Depot:

And of course I couldn't leave you without the before and after photos. The kids look so little and I had so much fun decorating our old playroom. We used to switch it up all the time and the kids loved it, I love that we have so many pictures in it. Truthfully, being the cheeseball that I am, renovating this room made me cry a couple of times. I was a hot mess looking for those gallery wall pics, ask my babe.

So what did we do with all the toys in the room? We donated a lot of it, we moved some around... the play kitchen went into our real kitchen and it's great in there. The tent is in the basement for now... the Ikea bookcase went upstairs to the hallway and Emme's doll furniture is in here little room. We feel really good about the redecorating... and we can hold on to the memories and photos forever now.
I really hope you enjoyed this little family room reveal and that it can serve as some inspiration. Dave and I worked so well together making our vision come to life for this room. It was a lot of fun and I am excited to finally be able to share it with you guys. Thanks so much to Home Depot for helping us create this room where we'll sure make lots of new memories.
Thank you to The Home Depot for partnering with us for this amazingly fun project.

4 THOUGHTFUL GIFT IDEAS FOR ANYDAY OF THE WEEK

February 19, 2019

I love #VDay but the truth is that it doesn't have to be Valentine's Day for you to show love and affection to the ones you love most. This is a lesson I teach my kids often and honestly, they are so amazing at being thoughtful and sweet. I love to think that they get it from their mom and dad, of course. As natural as being thoughtful comes to me, the truth is, it doesn't come natural to everyone, so I am here to share 4 simple ways you can show love any day of the year.
Remember it doesn't have to your spouse, or boyfriend/girlfriend. It can be your friend, brother/sister, your mom or even your abuela. The best recipe to a happy life is to spread kindness and love everywhere you go, because it comes back tenfold. So ready? Here are 4 sweet ideas:

1. Flowers! Supermarket flowers work just fine and are usually under $10! Remember is about showing that you were thinking about the person and making them feel loved. Dave is amazing at this and now my kids have taken after him. Both of the kids request he gets me flowers every time they go to our local supermarket. And I am one happy wife and mama!

2. Chocolates! Who doesn't love chocolates? Whether you are surprising them by sending their favorite box of chocolates from Simply Chocolate or simply picking up their favorite candy bar at the store, chocolate is the way to one's heart.

Simply Chocolate has a delicious variety of quality chocolates in every price range (from $20-$300). One of my favorites are the baskets which come with individual chocolate boxes to last all month long. For me, I love a little treat after a long day on the computer or a crazy day with the kids. I'll take chocolate and wine any day of the week. It's the gift that keeps on giving and perfect for all year round. This Vosges Exotic Truffle Collection 32 Pc Box is to die... it's infused with spices, nuts, roots, herbs, barks and tonics from around the world with super premium proprietary chocolate.

3. A handwritten note! Romantic, sweet and super easy... I've gone as far (and cheesy!) as to mailing Dave notes to work {insert monkey emoji covering eyes here} but he loved it and I love surprising him. It's all about the little things, you guys! That cost me a stamp.

I remember when I was a little girl my mom used to leave little notes for me in the morning or surprise hand written letters whenever she had to travel, I still have them and cherish them so much. See, it's true that your kids learn everything from you...  I learned it from her and now my hubby and kids take after those sweet thoughts my mom instilled in me too - priceless!

4. Pick up their favorite treat! My mom loves dried fruit and trail mix, so whenever I am at the store, I love to pick it up for her... it shows a little love and reminds her I am always thinking about her and honestly it's often on a random Wednesday. I think thoughtful little gestures are best when least expected.
I hope this post inspired you to show kindness and love to someone. Send a delicious box of chocolates from Simply Chocolate and make their day! If they are anything like me... they'll love you harder for being so thoughtful. Remember kindness is free... spread it like confetti! Xo.

3 PIECES THAT WILL TAKE YOU FROM WINTER RIGHT INTO SPRING

February 15, 2019
Now that we got through the January slow mode... and we are passed Valentine's Day, let's talk spring! What are the best clothing pieces to transition right in to spring? Keep on reading.

If you've followed me for a while you know that I am not a splurger-big-spender. I love nice things but have them few in between. With that said I am all about pieces that I can transition from season to season in my closet and get the most out of my money and I think most of my followers are on the same boat. Because let's be honest, clothes come and go and I like to be smart about the pieces I buy. I love fashion so creating new looks with the same pieces throughout the year is fun for me.
So what are 3 pieces of clothes you can transition from winter right into spring?

1. Dresses: I am loving wearing dresses over turtlenecks this season. I love how cool it looks but also the fact that I can wear my dresses right into spring and summer for that matter. Make it "winter" by adding a pair of over the knee boots, a cool hat and you are set, amiga!

2. Turtlenecks: They are such a versatile piece, who knew right? I wear turtleneck under sweaters, dresses, to work, for a casual date night, to brunch with friends, you name it. I have so many black turtlenecks. I would say get yourself a couple of black, white and gray and you'll be golden. I like to have different length sleeves so I can wear them right into spring.

3. Hats: Not only are they great for hiding that 3 day dirty hair but they also take any outfit from cute to "girl look at you"! I am a fan of wide brim hats as much as I love my adidas cap but this season I've worn my newsboy caps like it's my job! They go with so many of my outfits and instantly take the outfit from blah to voila. Who am I today with all this rhyming lol!?
Honestly you can wear hats all throughout the year, so this is one piece of accessory that will give you the biggest bang for your buck. So when shopping for spring this season, go through your closet first and if you find you don't have 1-2 of these pieces I mentioned make sure you put that at the top of your list. Remember: dresses, basic tops and cute hats! Basic pieces that you can transition are your best friend and your bank account will thank you. Save your money for the big long lasting luxury items... like a designer bag!

Stay tuned because next week I am sharing our new family room reveal. Dave and I have been working so hard on it and I am so happy with the outcome. Love you guys and hope you have a fabulous weekend!

THINGS TO DO: COOKING CLASSES IN HOBOKEN

February 9, 2019
Date night? Yes please! I love planning things to do and some have even suggested I am very good at it - who knew? Add that to my resume! So It was my turn to plan date night for Dave and I so of course cooking classes were the main option. We've never taken cooking classes before and when I googled cooking classes for couples, Hudson Table was first on the list, the reviews were amazing and the space looked very cool. Oh and side note, it's not just for couple of course, bring your girls, boo or go alone! It was so much fun, read on...

So after checking out their Instagram I knew this was our spot. Keep reading for everything we whipped up in the Hudson Table kitchen that night. Estuvo riquisimo!
Hudson Table is located on Clinton Street in famed Hoboken, New Jersey - one of my favorite NJ towns. It's right across from Trader Joe's - and guess what? best part? It's BYOB! yes you heard that right. From the moment we walked in, we loved it, the space is super cool everyone was so helpful. We didn't know what to expect but the night was perfect. The only down side to it? It's so amazing and fun that it sells out super fast. You can book online here and check out all their events months in advance. Oh and moms... they have cooking classes for kids! I can't wait to take Ben and Emme.

Honestly, we had such an amazing night that I am even considering gathering a group of friends together because even though we had a fun bunch that night and met 2 super cool couples, it would be so fun to go with friends. And they book private events too.

So what did we cook? I knew you'd ask... so we made:

  • Beet Salad with Yogurt Aged Balsamic Chervil
  • Szechuan Peppercorn Pickled Celery
  • Charred Carrots with Cumin Honey Whipped Feta Puffed Rice
  • Lamb Lollipops with Mint Cilantro Chimichurri
  • Molten Brownies with Salted Chocolate Sauce
... And it was finger lickin' gooooood. The bonus? You get the recipes sent straight to your email the very next day. It was such an easy recipe and Dave and I can't wait to make it again.
If you are in the area, I definitely recommend you visit Hudson Table, you will thank me! Promise.
Oh and when you book it tell them I sent ya! Bon Appetite! Xo
Thank you Hudson Table for inviting us. You made #datenight such a blast!

5 THINGS TO DO ON VALENTINE'S DAY WITH THE KIDS

February 5, 2019
I love any reason to celebrate love! But what to do on Valentine's Day with the kids? Good question! We have always celebrate February 14, why not? you know... As a mom to 2 little ones, I believe it's
important to show love in many ways, every chance we can. Here are 5 ways to celebrate Valentine's Day with children.

1. Get them a card! Home Goods always has the cutest cards for the holidays, I picked up the kids
Valentine's Day cards a few weeks back and at just $1.99 you can't go wrong!

2. We love to teach the kids to show love with little details of love and affection. A little surprise gift is such a sweet way to instill thoughtfulness in children, so they grow up to be romantic, thoughtful, sweet and kind individuals. It can absolutely be something small, in fact, I encourage small inexpensive gifts, it's not about the value, but about the thought. For example, I just picked up the cutest LOL Surprise watch for Emme at Target for just $7.99. For Ben, I am going to get him a couple Pokemon card packages (he collects them!) and they will be so happy! Both gifts under $20!

3. Encourage a note of affection and explain that love should be celebrated every day but this is a fun holiday to share bonus love. I love to educate my kids about everything and LOVE is number one Have them write out cards for mom and dad as their gift to you. Handwritten notes and kids drawings are my favorite. You can even make it a craft night!

4. Order take out but make it cute! Last year, we ordered food from Noches de Colombian and I set up the table super cute with V-day napkins, plates and cute flutes! I invited my mom, tia and grandma over and we had such a nice Valentine's day dinner on a random Wednesday. It was super sweet! And the kids love having our family over. It doesn't have to be only about couples! We are all loved and I prefer to teach to spread that around like confetti!

5. It's ok if you can't do something special on February 14, maybe work, or you are out of town... and maybe you are a single mom or dad and can't do it all that day. Make the holiday your own. This year we actually have a work event so Dave and I will not be spending the evening with the kids. But that's ok! We will be sure to do a little something with them the following day. No mom guilt here! We all do what we can and that's perfectly ok!
I know how hard mommin' can be, don't be so hard on yourself... you are doing great! I promise. And if you can't do all of these, get the card and their favorite candy and voila! You are always going to be the BEST MOM (or DAD) ever in their eyes! I hope these 5 tips are a little helpful. Stay tuned, I have a super fun date night idea coming up that I can't wait to share. Xo
